President Trump is building a Tech Force to boost AI talent 🚀
In December 2025, the Trump administration launched the U.S.
Tech Force, a specialized hiring initiative designed to recruit approximately
1,000 elite technologists to modernize federal agencies and solidify U.S.
leadership in artificial intelligence. Shortly after launch, the initiative
attracted over 25k applicants!
Target Roles: The program is recruiting software
and data engineers, data scientists, AI specialists, and product
managers.
High Compensation: To remain competitive with
Silicon Valley, salaries are expected to range from $130,000 to $200,000
plus federal benefits.
Service Model: Participants, referred to as
"fellows," will serve two-year terms within federal agencies such as the
Departments of Defense, Treasury, Homeland Security, and Justice.
Rapid Growth: Within just nine days of launch, over
25,000 individuals registered interest for the initial 1,000 spots.
Public-Private Partnership: The initiative is
supported by more than 30 major corporate partners - including Nvidia,
OpenAI, xAI, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon - who will provide mentorship
and consider program alumni for future private-sector roles.
Strategic Objectives
Managed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the
Tech Force aims to:
Close Technical Gaps: Address critical skills
shortages in AI and cybersecurity that hinder agency modernization.
Modernize Infrastructure: Projects include
incorporating advanced AI into defense systems (drones/weaponry) and
building the "Trump Accounts" platform for the IRS.
Global Competitiveness: Serve as a "force
multiplier" to help the U.S. outpace global competitors like China in
the AI race.
Applications for the first cohort opened in December 2025 via the
official Tech Force website and USAJobs, with placements expected to begin
in early 2026.
The U.S. Tech Force is tasked with large-scale modernization and AI
integration across various federal agencies
Key Projects
Members of the Tech Force are expected to work on projects such as
incorporating advanced AI into drones and other weapons at the Department of
War, building out the Trump Accounts platform at the Internal Revenue
Service, and using AI to improve intelligence at the State Department.
Major Agency Projects
Department of War:
Incorporating advanced AI into drones and autonomous weapons systems and
upgrading mission-critical defense technology.
State Department:
Using AI to enhance intelligence capabilities and international data
processing.
Infrastructure Modernization: Migrating fragmented federal data into
secure, cloud-native AI environments and addressing
technical debt in
legacy systems.
High-Impact Strategic Initiatives
Stargate Project: Serving as the human component for this $500
billion public-private partnership focused on building massive AI data
centers and energy infrastructure.
Predictive Maintenance: Deploying AI-driven models to manage and
predict maintenance needs for the national power grid.
Digital Service Delivery: Modernizing citizen-facing applications
and digital services at agencies like the Department of Veterans Affairs
and Department of Homeland Security.
Procurement Automation: Implementing AI to automate complex federal
procurement processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
Tech Force teams will report directly to agency leadership and work in
squads of roughly 30 to 40 individuals at large departments.
Training and
mentorship for these projects will be supported by corporate partners such
as Nvidia, OpenAI, and Palantir.
Executive Order
